THE SOFT RETURN
A sanctuary you return to. Not a course you complete.
You're tired in a way that sleep doesn't always fix.
Tired of holding everything together. Tired of being the one who keeps going.
Somewhere in all of that, you may have become a little distant from yourself.
You need somewhere to land.
The Soft Return is a place to do exactly that.
A DIFFERENT PACE
There is water running through everything here.
Water doesn't push through what's in its way. It finds the lowest place, and stays there, and over time it changes what it touches.
You don't need to arrive with energy, or motivation, or the intention to use everything.
You can come with exactly what you have today.
HOW MUCH DO YOU HAVE TODAY?
Some days, you have ten minutes and almost nothing left.
Some days, you have half an hour.
Some days, you can give yourself a whole hour.
The Soft Return gives you different ways in.
Choose the practice that fits the day.
Repeat it.
Leave it for a while.
Come back later.
There is no right order.
The welcome audio itself gives you permission to use the space this way: skip around, repeat a practice, begin with the shortest or longest recording, and return to the same meditation on different days.
THE YIN PRACTICES
Three Yin practices: 10, 30 and 60 minutes, created specifically for times of fatigue, depletion and burnout — working the lower back, kidneys and hips.
Yin is the counterpart to a life that asks you to keep moving.
You stay.
You notice.
You yield.
The long-held poses give you time to experience the body without rushing past it. The practice asks for presence rather than performance.
The pose isn't the point. The presence is.
And the 60-minute practice carries another invitation:
You are allowed to take up this much space in your own life.
THE YOGA NIDRA
Yoga Nidra is a series of meditation techniques designed for deep rest, restoration and stillness.
You lie down.
You close your eyes.
My voice guides your attention through the body, the breath and awareness itself.
Three depths, depending on what you have:
THE QUICK RETURN · 10 MINUTES
For when you have almost nothing left.
You lie down.
The practice is stripped back.
You arrive, follow the body, receive one deep invitation, and return.
THE RETURN TO YOURSELF · 30 MINUTES
A fuller journey through the body.
Your attention moves slowly from one side to the other, through the front and back of the body, until you have spent real time noticing what has been carried.
THE DEEP WATERS · 45 MINUTES
The longest practice goes further into stillness.
There is a gentle intention at the beginning, a slow journey through the whole body, water imagery and a return to the sankalpa at the end.
THE MEDITATIONS
Three shorter practices for very different moments.
NERVOUS SYSTEM RESET · 10 MINUTES
For when you are activated, anxious or spinning.
You notice your breath.
Your jaw.
Your shoulders.
Your belly.
You place your hands on your body, lengthen the exhale and feel the ground beneath you.
Then:
What do I actually need right now?
SELF-COMPASSION · 15 MINUTES
For when you've been hard on yourself.
It begins with a woman you deeply love.
What would you offer her?
You are that woman too.
SLEEP · 20 MINUTES
For when the day is over but your mind hasn't caught up.
You lie down.
The day is finished.
The body becomes heavy.
The breath slows.
You don't have to solve anything tonight.
THE AUDIO CONVERSATIONS
Three spoken pieces from Ellen.
No instructions to follow.
No need to take notes.
Just listen.
ON DEPLETION
What depletion can really be, and what it can reveal about the distance you've travelled from yourself.
ON SOFTNESS
A different way to understand softness, especially for a woman who has spent years being strong.
The image running through it is water: yielding, receptive, patient, persistent.
ON COMING HOME TO YOURSELF
What it means to recognise yourself again.
To be in your own body and feel that you are actually here.
To keep returning to what was never lost.
A NOTE FROM ELLEN
I built The Soft Return because I needed something like this myself.
There was a time when I was so far from myself that I no longer recognised the woman I had become.
What I was looking for didn't exist.
Something that would meet me in the exhaustion.
Something that wouldn't ask me to push through it.
So I built it.
A place where you can arrive exactly as you are.
I hope it becomes somewhere you return to.
A quiet room.
A place to land.
Something you can open on a Tuesday evening when you have very little left.
Or on a Sunday morning when you suddenly have an hour.
Come as you are.
With love,
Ellen
